Our story starts with Jeff Comas, a musician, composer, educator, and entrepreneur who has been playing music since he was five years old. Jeff has been a professional musician since 1980, and in 1989, he started teaching guitar lessons out of that same love for music. The guitar is still his favorite instrument, though he plays a variety of them. Since then, he has given over 40,000 music lessons, and today he serves as our Senior Director.

What started as guitar lessons grew steadily into Knoxville Academy of Music, built one referral and one long-term student at a time. Many families have stayed with KAM for years, and some students have returned as adults to study again, then brought their own kids in for lessons.

In 2017, Jody Comas took over as director and has run the school alongside a dedicated staff since then. Christian Cain serves as Director of Student Enrollment and Engagement, Jessie Woody keeps the office running as Office Manager, and Marek Rosinski is the Instructor Coordinator. Together, they work with a wide range of talented instructors covering nearly every instrument.

Today KAM serves over 300 students across Farragut and the greater Knoxville area, and it’s the largest private music school in the region. The size was never the point. What matters most has stayed the same since Jeff taught that first guitar lesson: real instructors who care about their students, lessons that meet people where they are, and a local school where music feels like something you get to do, not something you have to do.
